2012 MFA Thesis Exhibition

Washington University’s Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts will present its annual MFA Thesis Exhibition in the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum May 4 to Aug. 6.

Curated by Meredith Malone, associate curator at the Kemper Art Museum, the exhibition will feature projects by 23 graduating master of fine arts candidates in the Sam Fox School’s Graduate School of Art.

Also opening May 4 will be Frederick Hartt and American Abstraction in the 1950s: Building the Collection at Washington University in St. Louis. Curated by Karen K. Butler, the Museum’s assistant curator, the exhibition highlights the tenure of the distinguished Renaissance scholar Frederick Hartt, who served as curator from 1949-60.

Both exhibitions are free and open to the public and open with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Kemper Art Museum.

In addition, Patricia Olynyk, the Florence and Frank Bush Professor in Art and director of the Graduate School of Art, will lead a free walkthrough of the MFA exhibition at 7 p.m. Friday, June 8. Immediately following the talk will be a musical performance by Scarlet Tanager (8:30 p.m.) and an outdoor screening of Art School Confidential (10 p.m.).

Exhibiting MFA artists are: Ifeoma Ugonnwa Anyaeji, JE Baker, Natalie Baldeon, E. Thurston Belmer, Lauren Cardenas, Megan Sue Collins, Adrian Cox, Maya Durham, Erin Imena Falker, Jieun Kim, Howard Krohn, Robert Long, Marie Bannerot McInerney, Nikki McMahan, Michael T. Meier, Katie Millitzer, Reid G. Norris, Kathleen Perniciaro, Emily Squires, Jamie Presson Wells, Whitney Lorene Wood, Andrew James Woodard and Kelly K. Wright.

The Kemper Art Museum is located on Washington University’s Danforth Campus, near the intersection of Skinker and Forsyth boulevards. Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The museum is closed Tuesdays.
