Study AbroadStudents in the College of Art may take advantage of various overseas study programs available. Arrangements should be made by the end of the semester prior to departure. To participate during the regular academic year, you must have a grade point average of 3.0 or better and be granted a leave of absence from the College of Art. All overseas study programs must be approved by the director of the Core program, faculty in the major, and the Associate Dean of Students. The College accepts earned grades and credits only from approved programs. You are urged to enroll in a program that offers an equivalent of your major studio experience. If you choose to participate in a program that does not offer an equivalent major experience, a written proposal describing the program and how the necessary credit will be recovered must be approved in advance by the faculty in the major and the Associate Dean of Students. A portfolio review by the major faculty to confirm compliance with the proposal is required after you return. Full credit for the major may not be awarded if the terms of the proposal are not met. The Associate Dean of Students (Bixby Hall, Suite 1) has information on recommended overseas study programs. The experience may be career enhancing and even life-transforming. We endeavor to provide the opportunity for all Washington University students to study abroad at some point during their undergraduate program.
